Can I be here?

Collaboratively created by members of the Berlin Whacking community, the work in progress showing Can I be here? comes from the experience of a community, that is historically rooted in the experience of queerhate and racism. Can I be here? is an exploration of the difficulty and strenght of creating spaces for self expression.

How hard will we try to not look into our ugly parts?

What lengths will we go to, to hide these from others?

And what if we can’t hide anymore?

The Berlin Whacking Community is not only a space to come together through dance and self expression but to create new forms of performance and care.

Anna Koddenbrock ist a queer performer and theatre maker, connecting stories of community across time and breaking with hierarchical binaries of then/now, you/me and professional dance/community dance.

Joanna Woźnicka is a polish theatre maker, producer and dramaturg. Her theatrical work focuses on queer and migrant stories, often touching upon themes of identity and belonging.
